Smith and Jones
March 30th, 2007

As of today, the twenty ninth season of Doctor Who gets underway (well, if you don't count the special episode back at Christmas). Woot! More stuff to watch on Sunday.

This is cool.

Yesterday Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire was released for the Wii's Virtual Console (VC). It's made by the same company and seems to be in the same vein as Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Grey Wolf, a game that I really enjoyed. Maybe I will finally be able to get rid of the SNES.

Edit: These are the games I would need on the VC to finally get rid of my SNES…

– Super Mario All-Stars

– Super Mario World (currently on VC)

– Donkey Kong Country (currently on VC)

– Donkey Kong Country 2

– Donkey Kong Country 3

– The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (currently on VC)

– Mechwarrior

– Super Mario Kart

– Genghis Khan II: Clan of the Grey Wolf (or similar)

OpenID
March 21st, 2007

Rather than trying to explain OpenID, I'm just going to point you to this screencast. There's also some useful information here about how to turn your web log address into an OpenID.

Google Reader Clips
March 20th, 2007

I've been messing around with different ways to include feeds in my web log sidebar. I've had no success in getting a straight php solution to work on GoDaddy, so I looked at several javascript solutions. The one I'm currently using for my Diggs block is Feed2JS which works relatively well, though it shows up a bit different in IE than it does in Firefox. The two biggest problems with Feed2JS is that it only accepts RSS feeds and it is dependent on a relatively unknown server. For my Audio block I'm using Google Reader's add a clip to your site feature. This weblog has some useful articles on integrating it into your site. Google Reader has the added feature of having a history of items rather than just the items in the feed at the time. The only real problem I have with this solution is the 'Read More…' link that is included with all clips. It also can be slow to update.

Richard wanted to do away with some of the stuff on his sidebar, so I went and relearned how to do make those kind of changes to the web logs. If you want something done to your web log, now is the time to ask.
