The Price of Memory
October 31st, 2008

I’ve been debating taking my laptop with me half way around the world, since I’d like to be sure that I have enough space for my photos. You know, in case 1200 photos isn’t enough. Then today I ran across a deal on Newegg offering 4GB SDHC cards for 7 bucks a piece. Admittedly they’re only class 4, but that’s what I’m using now and it’s fast enough to take card filling video. Also, Kingston is a company that I’ve had some success with. The card in my Wii is from them. If you absolutely need a class 6, they’re a couple bucks more. And if you’re old-school, they’ve got 4GB Compact Flash cards for $14. I guess I just didn’t realize how cheap things had gotten. Anyway, I picked up as many of the class 4’s as they would let me. Problem solved.

So get back, back, back to where we lasted.

Denmark
October 25th, 2008

I finally booked my flight to Copenhagen, so I’ll be in Denmark for the week of the 10th of November. I checked to make sure I knew where my passport was and was quite surprised by how different my face looks now. I hope they let me on the plane.

Virtual Console and Stuff
October 24th, 2008

I finally finished up World of Goo. It was a bit different than I expected. There were puzzles in which you had to do specific things, but those things were almost always obvious. The trick to the game was building a structure to do what needed to be done. So if you’re into building things, I’d suggest picking it up. It’s 15 bucks on the Wii and you get multi-player. I bought it for PC in hopes of getting a level editor, but I haven’t seen anything on that yet.

I also picked up Secret of Mana, which has been fun, even though I haven’t gotten very far in it. I was afraid that I wouldn’t like the combat, since it had been so long since I played it, but I think it works pretty well.

I picked up the original Mega Man a while back, but got stuck on the last level and haven’t gone back to it. I just don’t think I have the skills anymore.

I haven’t gotten around to checking it out, but I’ve heard good things about Tetris Party.

Bomberman Blast looks interesting, since you can play up to eight players.

If you missed it, I think LostWinds is worth a play through if you like simple exploration type games.

I didn’t finish Toki Tori, but it was a solid puzzle platformer.

Ys Book I & II got a pretty good review, and since it’s an action RPG, I might check it out at some point.

There’s also a fair number of other classic NES/SNES games to check out.

For Pete
October 23rd, 2008

Damn near killed em

Earlier in the evening, Pete was talking about how often his words get quoted in the “That’s going on the website” section. He then proceeded to completely outdo himself. You kind of had to be there, but even those of us who were, aren’t sure why he would want to drink his tea that way.

Three Short Hikes
October 11th, 2008

The weather was nice today, so Dad, Uncle Peter and I headed up towards the Adirondacks this morning. When we got to Trenton, I remembered that the falls were open at least one weekend in the fall, so we decided to go see if this was the weekend. As it happens, the falls were open last weekend and conveniently for us, this weekend.

The falls were not as impressive as they were in the spring, but it was still nice. There were also a lot more artists around this time.

After that, we hiked up Rocky Mountain. Sadly, the leaves were past peak.

Then we took the easy way (we drove) to Remsen Falls. I was surprised to see how many people were around. Some seemed to be hunters, but others were just camping.

On the way home we went out Moose River Rd. and got a few more shots before the sun went down.

As always, there’s more in the photo album.

I’m tired.
