Taking stock of the situation
June 26th, 2009

Let’s see if I’ve got this right. The government is effectively taking over private companies. Congress is going to vote on a new energy tax that will likely further screw up our beleaguered economy to no useful end. The president is trying to take over more control of our health care system by creating a new program that even he won’t go near. People are being killed in the streets of Iran for protesting tyranny, and all we have for them are flowery words. North Korea is threatening a nuclear “fire shower” and the best we can do is extend sanctions that haven’t done much to stop them so far. And the kicker? All the media outlets are doing is mourning the loss of one of the most vile scumbags* I can imagine.

*My apologies to scumbags, I don’t have the language to describe that kind of evil.

Necessity of Life

This is the current condition of last year’s grill. Of course, we didn’t realize that one of the legs had rusted through until after Dad had started the charcoal, which made for a fun experience trying to get hot coals back into the grill. Dad somehow managed nurse it through one more meal, so we could have proper burgers. Though they we’re fattier than usual as their seems to be a shortage lean beef these days. At least at Walmart there is as the lowest fat content I could find in the regular 1lb. containers was 10%. We usually go for the 94% if we can get it.

Anyway we got a new grill, which seems fine…

but this struck me as odd.

The names have been removed to protect the incompetent.
October 9th, 2008

I’ll admit that I was 5 minutes late to my doctor’s appointment this morning, but after I got there I had to wait 45 minutes before I was even allowed into the examination room. There I waited another 45 minutes while the staff ran around mispronouncing my name in an attempt to find my chart. When I finally got to see my doctor, he came in without my chart and had to ask me why I was there and where we had left things the last time I was in. The only thing they were (eventually) able to find was my blood work from last week that showed my cholesterol is still high, in spite of me losing about 30 pounds.

I weighed in at 226 today, which is just on the border of overweight/obese. Given the problems with my liver and cholesterol, my doctor thinks that I should try to get down to “normal” weight which is around 186. I know I’m not skinny, but I’m not entirely sure where all that weight is going to come from. He told me that if dropping another 40 pounds doesn’t work, I should probably start taking meds for it. Yay!

Blood Shooting Out of My Eyes
May 1st, 2008

I think I injured my brain watching the TV guide channel last night. I was innocently flipping through the channels and stopped on 23. They were having a discussion about “jumping the shark” and this one guy seriously said that the quintessential “jump the shark” moment was when Fonzie jumped the shark. Nooo! Really? Could that possibly be where the term came from? Gah.

Better yet, I was watching a sitcom, and yes that should have caused blood to come out of my eyes, but that wasn’t the problem. What was, was the emergency message that told me about the upcoming analog/digital TV transition. That’s fine enough, but it went on to say that my video game consoles and DVD player will continue to work with my TV after the transition. Do people really need to be told this? Gah!

Somebody get me a towel, this is getting messy.
